To honor its namesake, planners for the new Carl N. Platou Emergency Center at Fairview Southdale Hospital wanted to showcase something truly special for the new space. Commissioning public-space sculptor Allison Luedtke, they sought to create a large-scale wall sculpture that would both honor the late Carl N. Platou and serve as a calming sentiment for patients.

The more than 15-foot-wide sculpture – made with laminated glass, anodized aluminum, internationally sourced organic handmade papers and fibers – invites the viewer to learn the legacy left behind by the Fairview leader and visionary.

Starting Sunday, August 16 at Fairview Southdale’s Community Health Fair, you’ll be able to see the piece in its new space, located in the lobby. When viewing, don’t be shy. Take a step forward to uncover details hidden beneath the glass.
