Fairview Northland Medical Center took home two top honors from Press Ganey’s National Client Conference in early November.

The honors included the 2016 Press Ganey National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) Award for Outstanding Nursing Quality and the 2016 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award for exceptional patient experience results.

Excellence in nursing quality

The NDNQI Award for Outstanding Nursing Quality honors hospitals that have made impressive and measurable improvements in nursing performance and patient outcomes.

Fairview Northland Medical Center received this year’s award in the community hospital category. The team achieved exceptional results through changes in nursing practice to improve patient care and safety, applied across the organization, and honing in on nurse engagement.

“We measure what matters most,” says Jackie Popp, BSN, RN, CPHQ, North Region director of quality. “We assign a stretch performance target that cascades from the chief nursing officer through nursing leadership and nursing staff.  We all have a stake in the results, driving us to work effectively as a team, and we have been really successful.”

Excellence in patient experience

Fairview Northland’s ED earned the 2016 Press Ganey Guardian of Excellence Award, which recognizes top-performing health care organizations that have consistently achieved the 95th percentile or above in patient experience over the course of a one-year reporting period.

Dawn Anderson, director of nursing emergency services for the North Region, says employees and providers have focused on doing meaningful work and doing it with a purpose.

“We have an engaged, passionate team that puts patients in the center of their work,” she says. “They are consistently looking at things to do to personalize care. I am extremely proud to lead such an amazing group.”
